Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
My role as a product marketer covered aspects such as product information leaflet creation for components such as brake pads and brake discs, copywriting, competitor and industry analysis, data analysis and the co-ordination of the monthly product review.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
yes I was given a manageable amount of responsibility during my placement which signified the importance of my role. The responsibility also means that my confidence had the opportunity to progress, benefitting me in future opportunities.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Yes I have drastically developed my skill set since starting at Cummins. I have acquired a range of personal and professional skills such as improved communicational efforts & confidence, my IT skills using Excel and other technical aspects have also improved, along side my overall knowledge surrounding the marketing industry.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
The support I received from the company mainly was from my direct line manager who supported the progression of my skill sets during the whole of my placement. The support I received was focused on the progression of objectives that I had set at the start of my placement so I could understand and progress on specific factors.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
the company culture was a fairly relaxed environment with good communicational efforts from most cross functional teams. However, there have been little opportunities socially with the team.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement. I believe that I have progressed as an individually professionally and personally, which is something I will always take into consideration. I believe that the assets I have gained alongside the professional connections and friendships will always be an important factor to remember.

Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Cummins
Ensure that you as an individual aligns with the companies morals and values, these can include factors such as; Sustainability, charitable work throughout the offices local community, diversity etc. These points can be found across their social media pages and their main website etc. Also make sure that you have clear objectives before starting your role. I suggest creating a varied amount of SMART objectives and following these up with your direct line manager to ensure they are achieved by the end of placement.
