Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role involves supporting the development of algorithms used in sonar systems. It varies on a day-to-day basis, but I learn about signal processing concepts and apply them to algorithms, analyse datasets to help in trials and write code in MATLAB or Python.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my apprenticeship, I learn something new every day and I get the chance to apply it practically. I get to meet people from every part of the business and learn about how they operate, which is really interesting.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I've learnt lots of new skills, like coding in MATLAB and Python, both languages I hadn't previously used. I've learnt a lot about the fundamentals of sonar and signal processing and soft skills like presenting and working within a team.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I get a lot of support from my employer, mainly from my manager, whom I have weekly check-ins with. I also have a apprenticeship lead for my business area to go to if I have any concerns. There are also early careers reps for each site who I can go to with any questions and I have a mentor who is a fellow apprentice to guide me through work and university.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My university has a tutor for me to go to if I have any concerns and I can go to the lecturers if I have any questions about the modules. The university's wellbeing team is also available.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
