Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Measuring quantities from drawings, pricing works (labour, materials, plant etc), procuring subcontractors and assessing subcontract invoices, measuring completed works, preparing and submitting valuation documents, monitoring costs and liaising directly with main contractors

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt many new skills such as; how to use measurement software, how to understand drawings, how to price works and variations including labour, materials, plant etc, professional behaviours and language in relation to liaising with and procuring subcontractors, assessing subcontract invoices, signing off for payment and issuing pay less notices, communicating with the finance team, how to evaluate and measure completed works and preparing and submitting valuation documents

I receive an abundance of support both professionally and personally to help me develop in my job role, achieve in my studies and develop as a person. The team at BCL are always willing to help and offer advice whenever I need it. Especially from the likes of my line manager who's tutelage and unwavering support has been above and beyond throughout.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Every member of the team is willing to offer their advice and support towards every element of my apprenticeship. With a number of the team already having completed the same degree as myself I know I can go to any one of them for support or advice if and when I need it.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My learning in course thus far is providing a broad and general knowledge of construction which is giving me the background knowledge required to perform my job role
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I have been on a number of social activities through work ranging from after work meals to attending Bristol bears games at ashton gate.

Why?
BCL is brilliant company full of top class professionals. Everyone at the company from the directors to the commercial team to the site teams is incredibly friendly and more than willing to impart their knowledge upon you wherever they can. Especially the likes of the Senior Quantity Surveyor and HS&E manager whose help, advice and knowledge has been invaluable throughout my time at BCL.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BCL Groundworks Ltd?
If you are keen and willing to learn, BCL have a great team excited and committed to educating you. All you need is a good attitude and there is no better place to be as an apprentice than BCL.
