Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

On site my role is a trainee setting out/site engineer for which I give either a point or a level to the groundworkers for the work on site and also check technical drawings and work with the client/site managers to resolve problems. I also complete site QA (quality assurance) to ensure all work is done to the correct standards.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes as everything I have learnt was new to me. I have also completed training courses such as CAT and genny, abrasive wheel course, first aid course, fire safety in buildings, fire safety awareness, asbestos awareness course and more.

I'm supported in everything I do by my employer including things such as training courses being offered regular meetings where my mentor sits in and receives and gives feedback to and from my college and I am offered constant help if needed with college or work.

We have a Christmas and summer party mostly every year and also some of my work mates train at a local boxing and fitness gym which I sometimes attend.

I would recommend the company I work for to a friend because it provides good opportunities to learn and develop new skills. As a trainee setting out engineer, I gain hands-on experience with tasks such as drawing checks, setting out on site, and completing QA inspections. The team is supportive and experienced, which helps me improve my knowledge and confidence.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BCL Groundworks Ltd?
I would advise them to ask questions and learn as much as possible from the experienced engineers and supervisors on site.
