Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Maintaining SKYNET infrastructure and configuring networks both serial and IP.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
There is a wide variety of systems that are maintained, which means there is a lot of hands-on, practical learning. This is balanced out with theory lessons from a college to build your foundational knowledge.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed my computer networking skills greatly, especially with Cisco devices. There is a lot of serial networks within the SKYNET programme, helping broaden knowledge on more niche equipment too.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
There is a clear set of criteria which must be met and taught throughout, which is laid out in a logical order.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
There are always clear and supportive conversations with the management team, so I am always in the loop regarding my journey.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
A two-hour, bi-weekly 'Teams' call with a tutor to learn a very technical subject could be quite intense for someone who isn't already familiar with the basics.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The training from the college is structured well, starting from simpler topics and progressing onto more technical topics. However, I have found myself self-learning alongside college to better understand how devices work, and how to operate and configure different network components.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are monthly events for veterans, where you get the chance to meet other ex-forces employees. There are also apprenticeship events.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Babcock International Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The work Babcock does is detrimental to national security. You have a sense of pride working for them.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Babcock International Group?
For apprenticeships within the SKYNET programme, it would be beneficial to have a basic understanding of computer network devices, such as the differences between switches and routers etc, and EMF (propagation and radio waves).
