Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
My Role involves supporting the development, running, and closure of a variety of Projects and Programmes across the Babcock International Group PLC portfolio.
My day-to-day role is very dependant on placement: but typically involves personnel workload management, project controls (risk, schedule, finance), procurement, and project governance.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
I have thoroughly enjoyed the past two years on my programme, as I have been able to move around the business and support a variety of unique opportunities. Furthermore, placement managers (and the wider organisation) have been incredibly accommodating and utilise apprentices like myself to the fullest - allowing us to reach our full potential ever day, and be genuinely proud of the work we have done.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
Babcock have enabled me to develop core business skills right from day one, with each project team enabling me to develop specific project management tools and techniques to create an enriched project management skills portfolio with no previous experience!

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

5/5
The Programme is able to embed new starters within a project team - providing us with mentors, buddies (apprentices in the year above), and scheme leads to make sure we are fully comfortable in the business. We then have permanent support from the amazing emerging talent team who are always there to provide support. As you gain confidence, you gain more and more freedom to explore the business with the backing of emerging talent and the scheme leads.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
We receive a plethora of support from employers - who are able to support with personal issues, university education issues, and work issues in a very empathetic and problem-solving manor.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5
The support received from UCW is consistently good and lecture content is interesting. The day-release from work means that a week's work has to be covered in 8 hours: and UCW do an excellent job ensuring we learn key project management theory which has a real application in the workplace.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
The qualification received through our training provider (for instance - we are currently revising for our Project Management Qualification 18 months in) will ultimately ensure that we can enable best-practice in our role as project managers. Even the modules undertaken which will culminate in a Bsc Project Management Degree have been useful and have already helped me perform better in my role.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
Yes! There are a plethora of extra-curricular activities such as the Babcock young professionals network, sports teams all across the company, and the ability to get involved in STEM support and volunteering in your local community!

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Babcock International Group to a friend?

Yes

Why?

Babcock has provided me with the tools, confidence, and discipline to complete my job to the best of my ability with ZERO previous experience in project management. After 18 months I can safely say there is a place and use for everyone at Babcock to complete some genuinely inspiring work.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Babcock International Group?

Always remember to be yourself! It is very important to show how you as an individual can contribute to our projects and wider mission to create a safe and secure world together, and your personality, commitment, and genuine belief in our mission will be a huge part of that. Best of Luck!
