Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

5/5
My current role is paralegal-level work, and I get to move around the firm, trying new areas of law every 12 months (this will reduce to every 6 months in the last 2 years). I get to take responsibility for my own workload, while feeling supported by more senior members of the team.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

5/5
I think it's an excellent programme, giving me the opportunity to experience what life as lawyer will be like, but in a supportive environment, where it's acceptable to make mistakes as you learn. I am also gaining a law degree during the programme, which I wouldn't have been able to complete otherwise, if I had to finance it privately - that degree will come in handy for the rest of my professional life, no matter what.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

5/5
Legal research skills, drafting skills, interpersonal skills, professional vocabulary, communicating with clients and other professionals over email and calls, case management skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

4/5
In the beginning there were teething problems, but it is now structured and organised quite well.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

5/5
Everyone is open, friendly and approachable, so I feel very well supported.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

4/5
There have been issues with the training provider along the road, but they are generally there when you need some assistance.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

5/5
Study modules don't always line up with seats, so the area of law may not be relevant at that point in time, but it all comes in handy in general. The skills aspect of my training is always very relevant to my day-to-day work.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

5/5
Yes, there are lots of volunteering ad pro-bono opportunities, clubs and sports teams - this all varies by location, but there is always something you can get involved with.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend TLT LLP to a friend?

Yes

Why?

I was an internal applicant, having worked at TLT for a couple of years already. I felt comfortable committing to a 6 year apprenticeship here as I found everyone friendly, kind and approachable, regardless of their seniority or job role. Having worked at other law firms before, that is truly unique.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to TLT LLP?

Just be honest and your authentic self - they don't expect you to know everything, otherwise you wouldn't be applying to a training programme. Everyone will be friendly and helpful, which will hopefully help you to be yourself, and not let the nerves take over!
