Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I have been doing the Project Control placement. My day-to-day responsibilities consist of monitoring and tracking cost transactions to ensure financial control over projects and budgets - challenging any erroneous bookings. Being a PC also gives me the responsibility of creating bought-out and financial trackers for several projects, running regular reports, updating figures and collating data for Delivery Reviews. The role consists of using predominantly Excel alongside programmes such as Microsoft Project, Cognos and LN. I have also started to work on building a 'Management File' for a project - this means creating an extensive file of the projects'; schedule, budget, costs/spend, work breakdown, milestones, risk and everything in-between. I am due to learn how to use 'Predict!' more regularly too.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I thoroughly enjoy my programme, it has proved to provide benefits in areas that I did not expect. The role brings on a lot of travel which can become time-consuming however it has allowed me to meet differing business units and create a strong network. You will meet great people, learn amazing things and pick up invaluable experience. It is evident that the more you put into it, the more you will DEFINATELY get out of it. BAE has an extremely strong Early Careers department and offers fantastic opportunities all throughout your apprenticeship!

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Prepare for your interview through research of the business and your sector in particular. Be confident and simply be yourself. Do not doubt your examples, the simplest of them can be impressive if communicated and explained well! Master the STAR method without it feeling scripted. Know your morals and where you stand.
