Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Displays and Controls Mission Systems Engineer. This involves: engaging with different people in the company and internationally, completing engineering tasks (mostly modelling), researching, creating documents, reviewing documents.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
The work is engaging and keeps me busy. I have been able to socialise with the other apprentices too. I have many opportunities to learn and travel.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Many new skills with computers, social skills (e.g. organising meetings, talking to people from across the world), modelling on Cameo (MBSE).

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The placements are a good length, however I think the introductory stage was too long and unorganised (doing random tasks that have had little to no benefit). I also think the college is not very well organised.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Personally I have received a lot of support from my employer, however I am also aware of many people who have not.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The college does not provide much support, and our employer has not listened to our issues when raised.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
It has given some background knowledge but I have not applied anything from college in my day-to-day work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
None that I am aware of. We have organised our own events/sports teams externally.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Overall good employer, many benefits economically, set you up for a good career.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Research what it is that the company does, get involved in extra-curricular activities (especially engineering and aviation based), go to BAE events (e.g. women in STEM).
