Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I have been in 3 different placements since starting. Currently I am working with the Health and Safety team. I complete risk assessments, support the SHE Advisors with any of their work and support projects with SHE input.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

As I have gone to different departments I have seen a lot of the industry, it has kept me engaged throughout, always learning and developing my skills. I get support from everyone around me, regular check ins with my manager and always pushed so I do my best work.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Since starting here I have picked up many skills. GMP compliance, Risk assessing skills, presentational skills, problem solving, and many more.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

It is very well organised, we plan my next placements a few months in advance and I get information about the role before hand so i'm not going in blind. College is also organised always letting us know what stage I'm at and what's next.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

I have regular catch up's with my manager and get plenty of support from him. I also feel welcomed to every team I've been in and know that I can always look to them for support.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive a lot of support, my tutor listens to my feedback and passes it on. We get one day a week to work on our college work so I have plenty of time, if they feel i could do something better they arrange 1-2-1's with me to discuss and help me as much as possible.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I gain two level 3 qualifications at the end of my apprenticeship. One of them being health and safety, this has obviously helped me massively in my current role and without it I dont think I'd be doing as well as I currently am.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are plenty of activities this can be anything, there a lot of sports organised such as 5 a side football and I've played Padel after work with my colleagues. There are also professional events to attend, I recently went to a Health and Safety event in Manchester. The apprenticeship programme also organises events such as given a talk at a school, or running a stall at a career's event.

Why?

They are very welcoming and everyone is really friendly and supporting. Before I started I was nervous about joining the professional workforce and feel like an outsider due to how young I am but I always feel included and welcomed.
