Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
The role involves essentially the same tasks and work as trainees. This includes drafting legal documetns, communicating with clients, preparing legal research, and admin tasks such as file organisation, project management, and assisting with billing.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy the programme greatly. The work offered is varied and interesting and the rotation between teams means that you are always learning something new and widening your experience. As you move between practice areas which sometimes adopt different approaches to work, it feels like you can offer genuine insight into the different teams and are a valued part of the firm.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt lots of new skills specific to the legal industry and also developed my general communicatin, writing, research, and organisational skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is well organised and structured. The route to qualification is clear and regular meetings with / the availability of HR support means that it is easy to ask any questions that may arise.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
The support from CMS has been excellent. I have gone through some challenging life events and illness during my apprenticeship and they have always been understanding and willing to make adjustments.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The University of Law offer lots of support through learning mentors and course leaders. Like any university the extent to which you benefit from this support is highly dependent on the effort you make to engage with it.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I would say the learning at the university course is mostly relevant to the role. In particular the style of assignment and assessment is workplace oriented which means that you are practicing the skills that you will need to use every day.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are ample social networks, sports activities, and networking events on offer.

Would you recommend CMS to a friend?
Yes

I have found CMS to be an excellent employer. During my apprenticeship I have experienced the benefits of an excellent culture, driven and focused individuals, and a firm that views its employees as people.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CMS?
Research the firm and be sure that you are interested in the areas of law that CMS practice, as well as the culture and style of work it fosters.
