in my role as a Town planner, I will assess and review sites for development ensuring proposals align with national and local planning policy as well as balancing commercial viability. I manage planning applications from acquisition to decision, coordinating technical consultants, providing clear planning advice to stakeholders, and engaging proactively with local authorities to resolve issues and support positive outcomes.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes, although the teaching at the university have been incredibly informative and helpful. I have personally found most of my skills have developed from the day to day learning of working through projects and developing my skills. This has ranged from project management, more efficient communication, analysing and understanding policy and the ever changing guidance.

Leeds Beckett have been wonderful, the staff are responsive, supportive and very understanding that learning as an adult can be challenging whilst offering their support.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

my learning has allowed me to progress within my role and increase my understanding. Before starting my studies I would do things, which were right but I never fully understood why I was doing it the way I did. the learning alongside working practice allows me to know what I'm doing and why more importantly.
