Data Platform Analyst Review

My experience at EG On The move has been fairly good from when I have started. I have been supported by manager and my colleagues around me with my daily work and in understanding the business better.

I monitor and support Azure Synapse pipelines, using SQL and PySpark notebooks to investigate data flows and resolve issues. I ensure data quality is up to date by performing data investigations into discrepancies and validating that data remains accurate, reliable, and fit for reporting. I enjoy investigating into different data issues, each problem has it's own unique solution.

My role gives me regular opportunities to contribute meaningfully through monitoring pipelines, maintaining data quality, and investigating data issues. I feel valued by my team as my work supports reliable data and helps keep key processes running smoothly.

While the compensation package includes some useful benefits such as staff discounts, wellbeing support, and learning opportunities, these feel fairly limited relative to the level of responsibility and technical work involved in my role. There is scope to enhance the overall package with broader or more impactful benefits to better reflect contribution and support long‑term engagement.

The role is preparing me fairly well for my future career, particularly alongside my master’s apprenticeship. It is giving me greater insight into how data platforms and systems work at a deeper level, strengthening my technical skills and helping me analyse data from different perspectives and understand end‑to‑end processes.

Overall, the support I receive is strong. My line manager provides regular guidance and encouragement, particularly when it comes to skill development and problem‑solving, and I feel supported in my day‑to‑day work and investigations. HR support has been sufficient when needed, and there is some scope for more structured guidance around development pathways and benefits.

Overall, my work–life balance is good. The role can be busy at times, and it can occasionally be challenging to make time for additional learning or my apprenticeship alongside day‑to‑day work, but this has generally been manageable and not excessive

The organisational culture is generally positive and welcoming, with celebrations and engagement activities such as kindness days and charity events helping to promote inclusivity and team spirit. However, while these initiatives are appreciated, there is still room to strengthen the overall culture, particularly in terms of consistency, connection across teams, and making the culture feel more embedded in day‑to‑day working rather than centred mainly around events.

EG On The Move demonstrates a strong commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility through various initiatives and awareness events. These efforts help create an inclusive and supportive environment, and while there is always room to build on what’s in place, the current initiatives are positive and meaningful.

I would recommend EG On The Move to a friend, particularly someone starting their career after graduating. The company is evolving at a fast pace, and there are strong opportunities to learn quickly on the job, especially within large teams such as data engineering and software, where there is plenty of scope for growth and skill development.

The role matched my expectations well based on the recruitment process. The responsibilities, tools, and day‑to‑day work were largely in line with what was described, and while there were a few areas that became clearer once in the role, overall the transition met my expectations and has been positive.
