Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I spend 2 days a week on-site at University, another 2 days in the office completing placement work and Fridays from home completing work towards my Diploma.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The work I'm given is challenging yet still applicable to an apprentice, this balance creates enjoyable work. The level of work has progressed well as I've continued my apprenticeship.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have been constantly developing new skills throughout the apprenticeship. Both at University and on Placement I have been learning new languages and applying these practically on a daily basis.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The program is very organised, with a clear structure week-by-week and year-by-year. This was clearly laid out at the start and hasn't deviated from the initial plan.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have quarterly reviews with my skills coach to track progress. These aren't overly pressured reviews and instead gentle progress checks. I'm always encouraged to reach out to any of my skills coaches between these reviews and they are very helpful and supportive whenever I reach out.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
I receive excellent support and guidance from the BAE skills coaches for any diploma work, I reach out for small questions and they always get back quickly. However the University teaching could be much improved, with multiple modules feeling disconnected between lectures and labs. Also multiple modules have had flawed assignments and the lectures have been slow to respond and change/clarify assignments.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The practical work that I complete on placement is overall similar to the work I complete at University.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are a few sporting opportunities but not many. If you take opportunities to join different networking groups then there are many networking opportunities.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a program with lots of support from the early careers team. Due to a high amount of apprentices, the placement teams accommodate well for you and assign you work which is applicable to your experience.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Make sure to revise before starting your application and demonstrate why you want to be here!
