Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Quality Control analytical testing, involves a variety of different chemistry techniques eg HPLC, GC, wet tests and lots of automated techniques. Developing the opportunities to improve ways of working and problem solve when problems occur.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Love my job and enjoy carrying out my university work all at the same time. Gaining experience and personal development whilst being paid.

Since joining AstraZeneca on the apprenticeship scheme, I have developed many new skills
From my chemistry knowledge through my day to day role and my university course, to other skills such as problem solving, communication, presentation skills, organisation and many more.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The university programme runs all year round, lectures are released and completed within the time period and exam periods are at the same time every year, so is easy to organise myself around the busy periods.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive all the support I need from my manager and the apprenticeship team where necessary.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

University support is provided and lecturers and skills coaches are there to contact if any support is needed.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

All fundamental parts of chemistry and work place regulations are key within my day to day role, working towards this degree helps to cement the knowledge behind my day to day tasks.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Many different extra-curricular activities are available such as social societies, sports teams and different Employee Resource Groups, to make us feel included and help us to network with like minded individuals.

Why?
Joining the apprenticeship scheme with AstraZeneca, is the best decision I made. Gaining lots of experience and new challenges along the way has been a really rewarding experience. Whilst getting a degree and earning at the same time, will hopefully set me up for my future career.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AstraZeneca?
Do it, step out of your comfort zone, and take every opportunity which you can get.
