Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role involves performing tasks related to the different aspects of the software development lifecycle. A substantial amount of time is spent coding. There is also a university degree and a level 4 diploma to complete as part of the apprenticeship. During term time, there are generally two university days a week.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy coding and the university days are a nice break from the work placement days.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have become a lot more proficient at software engineering.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme has been running for many years in the format that I am currently undertaking.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
There is a good amount of support from the Early Careers teams and from the placement managers in my experience.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The university provides good support in regard to the degree.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
Some modules are very useful in the role, other modules do not have strong links to the role but provide good general software knowledge.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are a lot of extra-curricular activities to get involved with.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend the company for certain degree apprenticeships as the salaries that are offered for some (or potentially all, not fully aware of all of the salaries) of these are very good. It is also a good company to have on your CV.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
This is a company in the defence industry - so make sure that the role you are applying for is ethical, and take note of the projects you may be involved in.
