Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I work as a Tax Executive in the corporate reporting team. The day to day roles include drafting and reviewing letters and reports, corresponding with clients, and drafting and finalising tax computations and returns. Additionally, I am able to help out with other adjacent teams, such as private client tax, R&D, and corporate advisory. I get to work with a mix of owner managed businesses, charities, and listed clients.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
The programme is really good. We get lots of time off for study for exams. The workload is very manageable. The team is really friendly and helpful, and the work is very interesting. I feel like I learn so much every day, yet still have so much more to learn.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I've learnt so much. Firstly, I've learnt loads about tax and accounting through exams, working with the team, and direct client experience. I've also learnt lots about working in the corporate environment like time management, communication, and expectations.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
It's very well organised. The exams are clear and I know when I will sit each exam far in advance, giving me lots of time to study. It is a long programme (4 years) but that is still much less than many of the competitors, considering I will get my ACA and CTA qualifications.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
We get lots of time off for study for exams. Whenever I find something tricky at work there is loads of help available from the team. Everyone is very welcoming and understanding.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
We get lots of in person and online classes, as well as mock exams that help us study for the exams.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The ACA/CTA is directly relevant. Being able to analyse financial statements is very important for the role as that is a large source of our information. The tax papers for ACA and CTA are directly teaching the tax technical knowledge that we will use in the job on a day to day basis.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are lots of extracurricular activities. There is football and post work drinks. Additionally, there are lots of other new joiners your age so it is easy to make a social event happen with everyone around you.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Forvis Mazars to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a great place to work. The team is really good. Their qualification pathway is one of the quickest out there. There is a wide range of work from small charities to listed clients depending on what sort of work you are interested in. There is lots of opportunities to move around the service lines and get more experience. It is also an international firm which means there are international clients and large opportunities.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Forvis Mazars?
Make sure you are a good candidate. The role is highly competitive so you need to stand out. Be easy to talk to. The firm is built on its people. Being easy to get along with is just as, if not more, important than being excellent at the technical side. Get work experience. Having a part time job during sixth form / university is really important as it shows that you have the skills to hold down and perform in a work environment.
