Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
In gen2 my role consists of learning the 3 welding procedures and then completing practical assessments on each of these. We NDT welds as this is our actual job role so we can gain an understanding of what makes a good or bad weld and how to spot defects. On a Tuesday we do tech certs which is coursework and assignments that we complete so that we can get a qualification out of it. We also complete learner journals, assessment write ups and knowledge questions so that we ca look back on what we have learned.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my programme however I am looking forward to getting onto placements and learning and gaining experience on what it is like in the working environment. I am enjoying learning about the job in gen2 and completing practical activities.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learned new skills by completing things that I have never done before such as welding and using machinery so I feel that I have gained independence and confidence skills. By working with people I have never worked with before in the workshop and when doing apprentice challenge I have gained more team working and leadership skills. As somethings don’t always go right when completing work, we sometimes need to find different solutions, so I feel that I have gained problem solving skills and creativity.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The program is well organised and structured but sometimes we don’t have set plans of what we will be doing for the week however the learning and what is overall planned for the first year is good
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
As we are based in gen2 we don’t have direct contact with our employer however we are kept in touch with through frequent emails and in reviews.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
In tech certs we get all the help that we need when we are struggling so it helps me understand more. In the workshop our instructor shows us how to weld properly with the correct technique.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
