Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
Day to day varies here at amex there are often weekly team meetings which are great to attend along with trainings on body diversity for example. In terms of work for your project you are given a lot of independence to conduct the analysis and findings yourself with the help of other teams or members of your own team. You also will have regular meetings with your line manager and other team members/stakeholders which is great.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was really great to actually get a feel for the business and I really enjoyed seeing how much all the colleagues valued the company which says a lot. Most colleagues have been there for ages and it was lovely to hear their perspectives on the company. Additionally there were talks held in town halls with higher leadership from across the globe and even a talk with the CEO Steve Squeri, which was amazing to tune in to.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
Yes I have learnt so much already over the 10 weeks ! I had never properly worked in a corporate team environment but everyone is genuinely so nice and willing to help you which made the process much smoother. Marketing was quite data heavy so learning how to interpret data and navigate excel was also a skill that I acquired over my time. Most importantly stakeholder management and project planning was essential in excecuting my final presentation

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture was amazing ! Everyone is so friendly and welcoming to you, especially in wanting to give their time to talk through the company and roles or even what your aspirations are and how they can help you achieve that. There are regular opportunities to get to know your team better outside of work and general team bonding activities which is fantastic and not to mention the amazing hybrid style of working which allows you to have control over your work life balance

Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to American Express
I would say be yourself ! They are all so nice and even during the assessment center they made an effort to make it much more friendly compared to other companies which was brilliant. They love to actually get to know you and understand your motivations because at amex anything is possible career wise and people often move from teams or even departments so you are able to be flexible throughout your career which is amazing
