A wide variety of placements which you choose based on your own professional interests provide long term projects, in addition to short day-to-day tasks, that allow you to work towards company projects.

While my employer provides constant updates on the structure of the course, the training provider is often less helpful, with many lecturers lacking the required subject knowledge for our modules.

We have regular meetings with our employer where we can raise any technical, wellbeing or personal issues, and receive detailed feedback on our workplace performance and set objectives for the future.

While individual lecturers may not always be of a high standard, the training provider as a whole listens to student feedback and regularly advertises sources of wellbeing and safeguarding support. The lecturers are also interact much more with learners than those on conventional university courses.

Many topics covered by the training provider directly relate to work done in placement. However, the level of detail for some modules is sometimes very surface level compared to the content of the placement. This only applies to certain module/placement combinations though, overall the content is well tailored to our job role.

Incredibly insightful and involved course, where learners are treated as adults and respected members of the engineering community. Despite the relatively rural and isolated location, there is plenty to do outside of work.
