Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role changes every 6 months (on a placement basis). At the moment, I am in the TfL Climate Adaptation Team, working to prepare our organisation for more extreme weather events, as the climate changes. This is important to make sure our customers stay as safe as possible, whilst also increasing the longevity of our assets (resilience). Day to day I have working groups both online and in person with different groups of people across the company trying to tackle different climate problems
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I get an enormous amount of satisfaction from my job and the people I work with are great. The university course is also very interesting and links in to a lot of my TfL work very well. People through the company value my input and make it a good place to develop and grow as a professional

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
As well as technical skills like GIS mapping, water and soil quality assessment through university and Microsoft skills like powerBI and excel, I feel I have also developed a lot in confidence. When I joined I was not a big public speaker, but I have developed this thanks to the people around me, and now give regular all day training sessions to other members of staff. I could not ever imagine doing this when I joined straight out of sixth form.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I was the first year of this course, but the organisers did a fantastic job in making sure I was supported and clear on my roles and knew what I was doing day to day during induction. The course remains very well organised from both the TfL and university perspective
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I feel fully supported through my course, and have a good support network if I have questions or work concerns.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Can take extra uni days should I feel I need to, and my training provider is clear on what the role of apprentices is
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
There is definite crossover from the training provider, and i feel it helps me week to week in my role. My university notes often come in handy when in work and when I have more technical or science based questions to answer
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There is plenty of opportunity to be involved in extra curricular activities. Ther Graduate, Apprentice and Intern Committee has social activities, and there are also sports clubs I have joined like a run club and a bouldering society
