Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am an Apprentice Surveyor on the Commercial Pathway, which means that each year I rotate into a different team within the company. For my first year, I am currently sat in the Business Rates Team and I am really enjoying it! On a day-to-day basis I am working on a number of different client properties, looking into how we can save them money on there business rates tax. To do this i do a lot of work finding comparable property evidence, i use excel a lot to perform rental analysis and create spreadsheets. I have to collate this data and turn it into what is known as a CCA (check, challenge, appeal) which gets sent to the Government for them to decide whether our evidence is strong enough to allow for a reduction. I can sometimes be out and about, away from the office, undertaking site visits and inspections where i can practice my measuring skills and point out areas of concern/risk. All in all, it is good to be working on different tasks each day and i enjoy getting to be out of the office sometimes.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy this programme because i have found it to be extremely beneficial. I am not only working and gaining hands on experience in the career path i want to take in the future, but i am also earning a degree surrounding the same subject which is completely payed for! I then also get payed on top of this which made the decision to do a degree apprenticeship kind of a no-brainer to me. The company and people also make it super enjoyable as i am doing fun work that i enjoy and am also surrounded by welcoming and friendly colleagues.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have definitely developed my social skills and confidence, the real estate world is extremely social and so it has been nice to be pushed out of my comfort zone a little bit to learn more about creating connections with people and networking. I have also developed my computer skills, especially when it comes to things like PowerPoint, Excel and Word along with the new databases i have been introduced too. My organisational skills have also been developed after stepping into the workplace, i have to be on time, i have to know which tasks i am completing and how to prioritise them based of importance, this is something i did a little bit off at school however moving into the working world this has definitely been a skill that has had increased development and use.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme has been super at supporting me since i have joined. I feel as though i know my plan of what the next 3/4 years will look like for me and who to talk to if i am concerned about anything. I feel safe in the fact that i wont be 'forgotten or less prioritised' as i progress through the years at the company as i have seen the older apprentices and grads above me be extremely well supported especially when they are starting to think about their end qualifications.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive great support from my employer with there being a number of benefits on offer which includes pensions, both physical and mental health help as well as a number of other schemes and options i can choose from. In the workplace i also feel confident that i will be supported if i am struggling with anything work tasks, workload, personal issues, etc. my voice will be heard.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I am currently working towards my undergraduate degree and although of course there is always more independence when moving from school to university i still feel happy that my journey is being supported along the way and throughout my time here. I know who i should talk to if i am struggling at all and what help there is in place for me if i should need it. Although I am not personally taking my APC/End qualification yet i can see from those who are around me, they are extremely well supported and provided with hours and hours of help if they wish. This makes me feel more confident about my future as i know i will be well supported.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My qualification through my training provider really helps me, i am learning the ins and outs of what i do everyday and so the two are extremely comparable. One day i may learn something at work and then learn about it more in depth in uni ( which then helps to develop my understanding of what i was doing at work) or sometimes it is flipped and i learn something in uni which i later use in work ( this making me feel like i have accomplished something and showing me in a good light to my colleagues and manger). I therefore enjoy that the 2 feel hand in hand and as though they have some relation to each other as for me its easier to learn something if i have already done the hands on version of it at work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There is a number of activities and events we can get involved with including large scale networking events, Next Generation specific events, classes or training, socials in general etc. which makes the job super enjoyable and sociable which i love! There is also opportunity to join boards or networks within the company such as the Womens Network or the Futures Board which allows you to gain more access to more events within the wider UK.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend CBRE Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Out of all of the companies i looked at, CBRE was the most supportive and well organised apprenticeship i had seen. I knew i would feel comfortable to learn and grow within the office and environment that CBRE provides. I like the fact that there is no pressure to be the best as soon as you join, they want you to grow as much as you want to grow but all at your own pace. There isnt a rush and support where needed which makes me feel as though it is easy to flourish in the environment that they create. I would 100% recommend to others wanting to join as it has been one of the best decisions for me to move away from school and into the workplace and CBRE has accommodated this adaption and change perfectly.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CBRE Group?
My tips would be to look into when the dates and application are open and try and get in as soon as possible so that you dont miss them. Be yourself, show your passion for the real estate industry and show your interest in CBRE as a company.
