Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
As an Apprentice Surveyor, I support the surveying and property management team by assisting with property inspections, tenant and contractor communication, maintenance coordination, and compliance monitoring. My day to day responsibilities include carrying out routine inspections and reporting findings, responding to tenant queries, managing maintenance issues, reviewing contractor documents, updating trackers and financial records, and helping with lease and valuation related tasks. I also take part in regular training, and apply learning from areas such as building regulations, sustainability, and RICS standards to develop the skills and professional judgement needed for progression toward qualification.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I am engaging with my apprenticeship programme, and although i am still finding my footing, i'm committed to making the most of the learning experience. There are aspects I am enjoying - such as developing technical knowledge, gaining hands on experience, and working closely with experienced colleagues - but I am also continuing to adjust to the pace and expectations of the role. Overall, I see the programme as a valuable opportunity for growth, and i am focusing on building confidence, strengthening my skills, and identifying the areas where I can get more support to improve my experience going forward.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I have developed a range of new skills throughout my apprenticeship, both technical and professional. My confidence in carrying out property inspections, understanding compliance requirements, and managing maintenance issues has grown steadily. I have also improved my communication skills through regular interaction with tenants, contractors, and colleagues, and become more organised through managing trackers, reports, and day to day tasks. Alongside this, I am continuing to build my knowledge of RICS standards, building regulations, and wider property management processes, which is helping me strengthen my overall capability in the role.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The structure of my programme has been generally clear, though at times i have found that the organisation and day to day guidance can vary depending on workload and team availability. While the core framework of the apprenticeship is well defined - with set learning outcomes, regular training sessions, and opportunities to develop practical skills - there are moments where I would benefit from more consistent direction and clearer expectations. Even so, I am proactively using the resources available to me, seeking clarification when needed, and finding my own ways to stay organised so I can keep progressing effectively throughout the programme
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I receive a good level of support from my employer overall, particularly through access to experienced colleagues, training sessions, and opportunities to learn on the job. There are times when support can feel less consistent due to team workloads or competing priorities, but whenever I reach out or ask for guidance, the team is willing to help and provide clarification. I am also encouraged to take ownership of my development, which has helped me build confidence and identify where I need additional direction. Overall, the support is there, and I am continuing to make the most of it as I progress.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
I receive a reasonable level of support from my training provider, particularly in terms of structured learning materials, scheduled teaching sessions, and access to tutors when I need clarification. While there are times when the guidance can feel a bit general or less frequent than I would ideally like, the resources available are useful and the tutors are responsive when contacted directly. Overall, the support helps me stay on track with my qualification, and I am continuing to make use of the materials, feedback, and touchpoints provided to progress through the programme.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I feel that my qualification supports my role by giving me the theoretical foundation needed to understand the principles behind the work I do day to day. The modules help me build knowledge on areas such as property law, planning, and valuation, which gives context to the tasks I carry out in practice. While some elements feel more academic than role-specific, the learning still helps me develop a broader understanding of the industry and strengthens my confidence when applying concepts on the job. Overall, the qualification complements my practical experience and helps me grow into the role with a more informed and structured approach.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are many structured extra curricular activities available, I get involved in the Womens Network Coffee Roulette, which has been a good way to meet colleagues across different teams, and I also take part in any Next Gen networking events that come up. These opportunities help me stay connected within the business and build relationships

Yes
Why?
I would recommend CBRE to a friend because it is a globally recognised firm that offers strong professional development, exposure to a wide range of real estate disciplines, and the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals. The company provides a supportive environment for early career talent, with networks like the Womens Network and Next Gen events helping you build connections across the business. Theres a clear focus on growth, learning, and developing both technical and interpersonal skills, which makes it a great place to start a career in the property industry.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CBRE Group?
I would recommend taking the time to understand the business and its different service lines so you can clearly explain where your interests lie and why. It is also helpful to show genuine curiosity about the property industry, as well as a willingness to learn and get involved in wider initiatives like networking events or employee networks once you join. Being confident, asking thoughtful questions, and showing that you are proactive and prepared will make a strong impression, as CBRE values people who take ownership of their development and are keen to grow.
