Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Day to day I work with my team on my project attending meetings, handling data, communicating with stakeholders both internal and external, reviewing budget information, completing documentation.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my programme since I get 1 study day a week which gives me time away from work to focus on my apprenticeship and the learning and qualification side of things.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt a lot of skills based off construction and the more technical side including engineering, which I've never been exposed to before. I've learnt about the fundamentals to project management and I've demonstrated them practically in the work place.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
There is a clear lay out for what I'm going to be learning and covering in my lessons, but also in the work and placement side. Since I have four 6 month rotations within my 2 years and these are all planned out and structured how these get allocated and when.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have weekly 1-2-1 meetings with my placement manager who checks I know what I'm doing day to day. I then have monthly 1-2-1 meetings with my line manager, to check I'm content within my placements since he stays with my throughout the entire apprenticeship. I then have bi-monthly cohort catch ups with my employer which enables opportunities for questions to be raised and any information to be relayed to us apprentices.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Continuous communication from my training provider is good, I have set up 1-2-1's and reviews to check my progress on my portfolios and to check my objectives are being completed in good time.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I can see examples of what I'm being taught, directly in relation to the workplace. This is extremely helpful for me, since this is my first time learning anything about project management, this allows my knowledge to be deepened by examples that I can carry out in my placement.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are many different opportunities and colleague network groups which I am apart of. These vary from whole company, to specialising in apprentices, women and many more.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Transport for London to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a workplace which cares for their employees, and pushes them to gain the most out of their experiences. It is a very understanding working environment, with friendly and caring people to work alongside. Their dedication to apprentices is something I'm very fond of, as I have heard of other companies treating apprentices as 'cheap labour' but at TfL, they don't treat you differently to another employer.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Transport for London?
Gain work experience or experience in workplace. I came straight out of college but did a weeks work experience at TfL. I truly believe they saw my dedication to the company by coming back and applying for a job, and so they were willing to dedicate their time and money to put me through the apprenticeship.
