Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role at the moment is in the sustainability and corporate environment team, specifically at a strategic level looking at high level documents and standards for how the company runs. I look at different standards and requirements set out by different organisations (such as SBTi, RSSB, PAS 2080) which are all for different aspects of carbon emissions and reporting. I often look at these and see what we are already doing as a business and what we can change to better suit these; manage actions for these and help categorise them; aid with reporting on scope 3 emission data.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I love this programme. It is my first proper office job as I have come right out of school and the service industry, and I find it a lot more fulfilling to do. Being able to put what I have learnt into context and see the risks which climate change poses directly on TfL as a company is really interesting, and being able to help against this risk is great fun.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt many skills, including presentation, excel, general knowledge of how companies are run and how multi-layered they are, and many more.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The aid that I get is amazing from all people in my team, and if there are any issues then reaching out to people who can aid is great and they are always willing.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Anything I need or have issues with can be raised with my employer and they are always open to listen.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
They are okay, but can be improved with some medical issues and don't seem to have much transparency about what goes on in the uni as some people will tell you different and conflicting things about the same issue.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Its still only the first year, but we have only really learn about tectonic hazards, which doesnt really apply to TfL, being a transport company in London which isn't really faced with these issues.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Transport for London?
Understand what TfL can do for you. As important as it is for how you can be good for the team, your own ambitions and goals in life should be able to be supported by TfL and give you a pathway to becoming who you want to be. If TfL can help this, whether that be through networking, gaining knowledge in a certain field, work in the public sector, following a passion of transport etc, then I believe that to be the most important thing as you should feel like the work you do helps you in becoming the person you want to be.
