Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I work as a Software Engineering Apprentice within Agentic & AI Services, where I support the development and delivery of AI-driven and agentic solutions. On a day-to-day basis, I contribute to building, testing, and maintaining software components, working closely with experienced engineers to learn best practices in coding, system design, and DevOps. My role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, translating requirements into technical tasks, and continuously developing my technical skills while contributing to real-world solutions that support wider business objectives.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy the programme. Coming from a background that didn’t involve software engineering, it was a big step up at the beginning and initially felt quite overwhelming. However, as I’ve progressed, everything has started to make much more sense, and I’ve grown in confidence. Now I genuinely find the work enjoyable and rewarding, as I’m able to understand the concepts, apply what I’ve learned, and see my own development over time.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed a wide range of new technical and professional skills throughout the programme. I’ve gained hands-on experience with software development fundamentals, including coding, testing, version control, and working with modern development tools and practices. Alongside this, I’ve strengthened my problem‑solving abilities, communication skills, and confidence working within a technical team. The programme has helped me build a strong foundation in software engineering while continuously developing both my technical understanding and my ability to work effectively in a professional environment.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
At the beginning, starting a new role felt quite overwhelming, especially with joining multiple calls and attending a lot of meetings and events at once. However, despite the initial intensity, the programme was well structured and organised, which made it easier to settle in over time. As I became more familiar with the expectations and routine, the support and structure in place really helped me adapt and progress confidently.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a high level of support from my employer, particularly from my manager. We work very well together and have regular one‑to‑one catch‑ups, usually on a weekly basis, which provide consistent guidance and support. They actively support my development, encourage me to grow, and help me understand my limits while building my confidence. This ongoing support has made a big difference to my learning and overall experience on the programme.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a high level of support from my training provider throughout the programme. I have regular calls with my coach, as well as the option to attend monthly support meetings, which provide ongoing guidance and reassurance. They are always approachable and easy to contact, whether by email or through one‑to‑one coaching sessions when needed. This consistent support has been really valuable in helping me stay on track and confident while working towards my qualifications.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My qualification supports me strongly in performing better in my role, as it reinforces and complements the practical experience I gain at work. The learning helps me understand key software engineering concepts in more depth, which I’m then able to apply directly to real tasks and projects. This combination of structured learning and hands‑on experience has improved my confidence, problem‑solving ability, and overall effectiveness in my role, making the qualification highly relevant and beneficial.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are a range of extra‑curricular and professional development opportunities available alongside my role. This includes networking events and wider engagement activities, such as recently attending a parliamentary roundtable event during National Apprenticeship Week, which was a great opportunity to represent apprentices and gain exposure beyond my day‑to‑day role. In addition to this, there are social and professional events that encourage learning, collaboration, and networking across the organisation, helping to broaden experience and build confidence.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Lloyds Banking Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Yes, I would absolutely recommend Lloyds Banking Group to a friend. I’ve been with the organisation for over four years, and during that time I’ve consistently felt supported, valued, and encouraged to develop. I specifically chose to pursue my apprenticeship through Lloyds Banking Group because I genuinely enjoy working here and appreciate the culture, opportunities, and benefits available. The organisation invests in its people, supports career progression, and creates an environment where you can grow both professionally and personally, which is why I’ve chosen to continue my journey here.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Lloyds Banking Group?
My biggest advice would be to be yourself. Lloyds Banking Group can train you to do the role, but what really matters is who you are as a person and whether your values align with the organisation. Be honest, authentic, and confident in your abilities, even if you don’t feel you meet every requirement yet. Showing a willingness to learn, a positive attitude, and alignment with Lloyds’ values goes a long way.
