Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As a Universal Credit Work Coach I will see customers who are claiming Universal Credit and coach them into financial independence. This usually involves coaching the customer into work, but it can also be supporting them through a health journey, or as they move through other circumstances. It can be challenging, but there is always plenty of help and support available for work coaches for things like mental health and wellbeing, as well as reasonable adjustments being made wherever they are necessary.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
So far we are still in training, which is mostly delivered through MS Teams sessions, which can get quite boring. Fortunately the facilitators do their best to bring the sessions to life and make them more engaging. We get some opportunities for shadowing the other work coaches too, which is always very interesting and a good chance to see how what you learn during teams sessions can be put into practice.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed plenty of skills already in just the first few weeks. My communication skills have greatly improved, as well as resilience and organisational skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is very well structured.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Lots of support. My team leader and the rest of my team are all incredibly supportive, and there are plenty of resources available for us to access to support our work, mental health and wellbeing, and any other reasonable adjustments we might need.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Receive plenty of support from facilitators and providers.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The qualification will help me to give better support and service to my customers.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are lots of extra-curricular activities to get involved in.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Department for Work and Pensions to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I have received lots of support in my new role, and everyone has been very friendly and welcoming. I am very excited to finish my training and start working properly, which will be in a week as of submitting this review. I already love it here and I know that even despite the challenges I will continue to love it after I have completed my training thanks to all of the support that is available.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Department for Work and Pensions?
It seems like there's a lot of information to remember, but all of it is available at any time to look at, and you can always ask a colleague when you aren't sure of something.
