Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
On a day-to-day basis, I arrive on site and coordinate with my mentor to see what we are working on that day. I then carry out first and second fix carpentry to a high standard, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and with strong attention to detail. I take pride in producing quality finishes as that is how I have been taught by my mentor and it’s what LJ construction expects of their apprentices, subcontractors.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my apprenticeship and get on well with my mentor. He is very experienced and takes the time to clearly explain new tasks, which has helped me grow tremendously since I started.
At this stage, I come into work knowing what needs to be done and can start my tasks independently and confidently

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learned a wide range of new skills throughout my apprenticeship. When I first started, I wasn’t confident completing even some basic tasks, but the progress I’ve made since then is something I’m proud of. The improvement in my ability to carry out tasks has skyrocketed as I now tackle all tasks head on and know exactly what to do in most cases. I’m really confident that LJ Construction is proud of the carpenter I am becoming and the continued progress I will make in the future.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is well organised and structured. There is good balance of work and learning new things what is exactly what you want in an apprenticeship, continuing improving at things you already can do and learning new things.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer, I have my bosses, my contracts manger and my traning providers phone numbers and none of them will hesitate when I call to ask for help, along with that me and all the other apprentices are in a group chat since when we started with our boss are training provider (MTT training) all us apprentices use this group chat to communicate with each other, to give tips and help, our training provider and our boss also communicate with us all in this group chat to share help with all the apprentices at once. Without a doubt I would say the support we are getting from our employer without a doubt is amazing.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Me and my training provider (MTT training) communicate very often to speak about my portfolio and how i am getting on at site, as I mentioned previously I have the contact details for my training provider and they are always willing to help me with anything I need, my training provider is also in the apprentice group chat and that’s where they share advice for all the apprentices at once. Overall they show us apprentices a lot of support and I dont think they can do a better job at it.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
What I learn from my training provider helps me perform better in my role. They improve my understanding of the work I do on site. What they teach supports my day-to-day work and helps me continue improving my skills.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
My work, does hold events occasionally, for example in the summer all apprentices and subcontractors have been invited to horse racing at Warwick races and LJ have booked a room for and after the races.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend LJ Construction Carpentry Contractors Limited to a friend?
Yes
Why?
LJ construction has provided me with an apprenticeship what is launching my career in carpentry, and at the rate I’m advancing at and with the support I’m receiving, without a doubt LJ Construction should be your first choice for an apprenticeship or to work for if you are getting into or already a carpenter.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to LJ Construction Carpentry Contractors Limited?
Due to the demand for apprenticeships and the decline of companies taking on apprentices I would advise you to take it very seriously if you were deciding to apply for an apprenticeship at LJ Construction due to the fact that a lot of people apply and there are only limited spots and if you are lucky enough to get one of them spots you should be prepared to put in the work as no one else is going to do it for you and there are others who would love to be in your position right now.
