Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Day to day involves learning from experienced engineers, attending meetings, completing long term tasks. Noting down my key skills and behaviours, managing my time, attending university lectures, doing university coursework, participating in the ImechE challenge.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my program as it prioritises my learning while still giving me responsibilities to advance my career.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt many new skills and developed on the skills I already had. For example, clear communication, managing expectation of those involved in the projects I am working on. Professional skills. Engineering skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Apart from the placements (individual projects/departments) that we are put on, there is minimal training that is provided from the business on a higher level, for example, the cohort that I joined with do not train together or have training days etc.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
The support I have access to is clear and relevant, I am aware of who I need to contact if I have any issues or concerns. Leonardo is very generous in understanding Apprentices needs and commitments.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Excluding the day to day experience and tasks that I am doing, there are no meetings/reviews/training days to improve or see how I am performing in my academic studies.
However, I am able to dedicate more time to university during the week if I need to, for example take the Friday to go complete my University coursework.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The training that Solent University provides is clear and relevant to some of the tasks that I am doing. I think the degree of relevance is entirely dependant on the project at work you are assigned to. However, this may not be the case for everyone as Systems Engineering is a broad field rather than a hard discipline. So the Electronics course is somewhat relevant.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Network Groups - Where people can get together and talk about a certain topic
Ad hoc groups - Fantasy premier league, football, D&D, Yoga, and a few other social groups
Professional IET events - News letters from the business share if there are any ongoing IET events locally.
And a few more.
