Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As an Apprentice Carpenter, my role is to help out my mentor when I can whilst also learning the skills of the trade. On a day-to-day basis, this involves measuring and cutting materials (whilst using PPE) , fitting components such as doors, cupboards and frames. I also assist with preparing materials, keeping the work area tidy. Alongside this, I develop practical skills and knowledge by observing experienced workers and gradually taking on more responsibility as my training progresses.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my apprenticeship in carpentry because it allows me to learn practical skills while working on real projects. I like being able to see the results of my work at the end and knowing I have helped to create something useful. The job is hands-on and keeps me active, and I enjoy learning new techniques from experienced carpenters.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
During my carpentry apprenticeship, I have learned everything I know so far about the trade. Before I started, I knew nothing about using tools or measuring materials properly. Through hands-on work and guidance from qualified carpenters, I have learned how to use different tools safely and accurately, as well as how to measure and cut materials correctly.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My carpentry apprenticeship programme is well organised and structured. I have a clear routine of learning both on site and through training, which helps me understand the job properly. Tasks are explained clearly, and I am shown how to do things before trying them myself. Over time, I am given more responsibility as my skills improve. This structure helps me learn safely, build confidence, and develop my carpentry skills step by step.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer. My contracts manager regularly visits the site to check that all work is to a good standard and that everything is safe for me. I can also go to one of the managing directors, who oversees the training programme and supports my learning and development.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive good support from my training provider while working towards my carpentry qualifications. They provide clear guidance on what I need to achieve and help me understand the work I am doing on site. They are always available to answer questions and give feedback on my progress, which helps me improve my skills and stay on track with my training.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel that my qualification through my training provider helps me to perform better in my role as a carpenter. The online lessons are useful for learning the theory and understanding different techniques, but I personally learn more by being hands-on with my mentor on site. Working alongside an experienced carpenter allows me to practice what I learn and improve my skills in real situations, which helps me become more confident and capable in my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
At the moment, there are no extra-curricular activities that I am involved in outside of work. This is mainly due to my inability to drive at this time, which makes it difficult for me to attend social or networking activities outside of normal working hours. However, I still feel included within the team on site and get on well with the people I work with during the working day.
