Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My job at Sort involved monitoring systems, supporting users, and planning and executing projects. Each day could be very different: one day I might be tidying and managing assets, another dealing with a system outage, and another bouncing from one user issue to the next. Some days my head would be buried deep in project work - and sometimes all of this could happen in a single day.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoyed it overall as tech is something I find interesting, and the people on the course and carrying it out were lovely and very helpful. I did find somepoint stressful, but that was mainly due to my own soft skills needing some improvement.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I would say my biggest personal improvements were in soft skills such as documentation and organisation, which I am continuing to improve on. Another area that improved during this course was the number of tools I now have under my belt, not only for troubleshooting but also for planning infrastructure changes and new servers. That said, I still need to improve my big-picture thinking.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
I think the program itself was well organised and structured into different modules. One thing I think they did really well at Althaus was the fact that they didn't make you re learn knowldge you already knew and identified that my programming knowledge was already up to par, and thus i didnt need to cover those modules, allowing me more time to focus on assignments or work
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Sort really stood by me throughout this whole process, even when there were bumps in the road. In my final submission, I was failed for not including a comparison with other operating systems, despite this having no relevance to my project of bringing old spare devices up to the current image. This meant I had to resit the assessment, with my final project grade capped at a pass. Throughout all of this, the CIO fought my corner and supported me through the resit process. I also received an incredible amount of help from my mentor, which was invaluable, and I cannot thank them enough.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Within my team, I received mentorship from a senior staff member who always took the time to explain things to me, even when it wasn’t the first time. He also planned additional side projects for me which, although they could not be used as assignments, challenged me and really helped me get to grips with concepts I was struggling with. Additionally, I was supported with changes to my working environment to better meet my sensory and focus needs, which I really appreciated and which made a significant difference to my productivity.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The learning I completed to achieve this qualification is invaluable within an IT environment, as it covered a broad range of topics in depth and provided me with tools that I could use immediately after each session, as well as areas I could ask questions about and continue to improve upon.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There's a monthly games night as well as events that bring the whole company together from all offices.
