As an Apprentice Bus Driver, my role involves learning to safely operate buses, follow assigned routes, and provide reliable customer service. Day-to-day tasks include carrying out vehicle safety checks, assisting passengers, driving safely and responsibly, and maintaining punctuality while following all company and road regulations.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my programme as it allows me to develop my driving skills, gain confidence, and learn how to deliver good customer service. Every day brings something new, and I like seeing my progress as I work towards becoming a fully qualified bus driver.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learned several new skills and developed existing ones. I have gained practical driving skills, improved my road awareness, and learned how to carry out safety checks confidently. I have also developed stronger communication skills, customer service abilities, and a better understanding of route planning and company procedures.

My programme is very well organised and structured. The training is delivered in a clear, step‑by‑step way, with each stage building on the last. I always know what I’m working towards, and the mix of practical training and classroom learning helps me stay on track and feel supported throughout the programme.

I receive a high level of support from my employer. They are always available to answer questions, offer guidance, and provide training when needed. The instructors and managers check in regularly to make sure I’m progressing well, and I feel confident knowing help is there whenever I need it.

I receive excellent support from my training provider while working towards my qualifications. They offer clear guidance, regular feedback, and structured learning that helps me stay motivated and on track. I also appreciate the support from our Internal Quality Auditor (IQA), who consistently shares valuable industry knowledge and experience. His guidance helps strengthen my understanding of the role and gives me the confidence to progress successfully through the programme.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My qualification has helped me perform much better in my role. The training gives me the knowledge and skills I need to work safely, communicate effectively with passengers, and handle different situations with confidence. The combination of classroom learning and practical training has strengthened my understanding of the job and improved my overall performance. The support from my training provider also makes it easier to apply what I learn directly into my day‑to‑day duties.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are extra‑curricular activities available at my workplace. Staff can get involved in social activities such as cricket and dominoes, which help build teamwork, reduce stress, and create a friendly environment. These activities give colleagues the chance to connect outside of work and strengthen relationships across the team.
