Overall, how would you describe your experience at BAM?
I have enjoyed my experience at BAM, the team I have worked with are friendly and supporting in my endeavours. Additionally, there is always external support outside of my team who are invested in my wellbeing who are accessible and readily available.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
The main responsibilities are ensuring that projects are handled commercially, money is being adequately managed, communicating with sub-contractors and clients that contribute to the successful completion of construction projects. In more depth, I have been responsible for conducting payment applications for sub-contractors, reporting on sustainable development regarding small and medium sized enterprises, and project controls.

How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

I have been provided with living away allowance as initially my commute was over 1 hr and 15 minutes. Thus, I have been adequately financed for the inconvenience of my relocating and therefore, supports my career workability.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

I believe that working for a main contractor is particularly beneficial for my career as a quantity surveyor as I am exposed to several varying facets that enables the acquiring of greater number of skills. You are the bridge between client and subcontractors, and heavily involved from the start of a construction project to the finish.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

Dependant on where the projects are, is where you will sit in terms of how quickly you are learning new skills. Early on, you shall be creating orders for subcontractors, whereas within the design and construction phase, payment applications and workbook reporting are more prevalent. You have to be proactive if you want to learn more quickly.

The support at BAM is great, HR are always willing to answer on behalf of things that may not even directly concern them. My mentors support was great, even outside of work, introduced me to expenses, browsing through BAM benefits and who the relevant people are to contact when required.
