Overall, how would you describe your experience at Irwin Mitchell?
My experience at Irwin Mitchell has been very positive. As a trainee, I have had the opportunity to work across four different teams, which has given me a broad understanding of the firm’s diverse practice areas and client-focused approach. Irwin Mitchell fosters an inclusive, collaborative, and supportive environment where trainees are encouraged to take responsibility, develop their skills, and contribute meaningfully to cases. I have consistently felt valued and supported throughout my training with the firm.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
As a trainee solicitor, my main responsibilities include supporting fee earners with legal research, drafting documents, managing case files, and liaising with clients and third parties. I also assist with preparing bundles, attending meetings, and ensuring deadlines are met.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

My role as a trainee gives me plenty of opportunities to contribute meaningfully. As a trainee, I am trusted with tasks that have a real impact on cases. I feel valued because my input is considered by the team, and I am encouraged to take ownership of work. Being involved in matters from start to finish and seeing how my contributions have helped to achieve positive outcomes is something I have found very rewarding at Irwin Mitchell.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

While the trainee salary isn’t the highest in the market, I feel it represents a fair reflection of the work I do and the level of responsibility at this stage of my career.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

I feel the role is preparing me well for my future career. Working across different teams has given me exposure to a wide range of practice areas and client matters. Irwin Mitchell is widely recognised for the quality of its training and development. The hands-on training and collaborative culture at the firm make me feel confident that I am developing the skills I need to qualify and succeed as a solicitor.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

I am developing a wide range of skills through both formal training and day-to-day work. My training at the firm has given me the tools and confidence to grow as a future solicitor.

The support has been excellent. HR, my line managers and trainee buddy have all been approachable and proactive, providing guidance whenever needed.
How is your work-life balance?

My work-life balance has been good in this role. Different teams have different approaches to flexibility, however I have found that the firm's flexible by choice policy has allowed me to manage my workload effectively while maintaining personal time and supporting my wellbeing.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

The culture at Irwin Mitchell is very positive, inclusive, and welcoming. Overall, the atmosphere is professional yet friendly, which makes it a great place to work.
