Overall, how would you describe your experience at Irwin Mitchell?
The firm is accessible, welcome and supportive to aspiring solicitors, even those without legal experience. The diversity and quality of work is motivating and development is encouraged.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
General trainee solicitor tasks such as drafting documents, reviewing documents, preparing disclosure, compiling court bundles, assisting in/attending meetings and court hearings.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

The firm do their best to accommodate your career goals and are always open to feedback. Regular reviews with your line manager enable you to understand your strengths and weaknesses and being able to observe and work alongside fee earners of all levels enhances your confidence/experience in the role.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?

I had no legal experience prior to the role and didn't feel disadvantaged by this. I still felt I was being treated as an equal and was also challenged with good quality work.

How is the support you receive?

Line managers and Early Careers are supportive and always have your goals and development in mind. HR are supportive and readily available for a range of issues and are always able to signpost to offer further support if needed.
How is your work-life balance?

Work life balance is encouraged as a trainee and if online late, you will find people checking in to make sure you're OK! I have never felt pressurised to over-work beyond my means or personal capacity.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

Overall the firm is inclusive and supportive, hybrid working is fair and strikes a good balance between office interaction and the mutual trust that home working provides.

Irwin Mitchell has a range of diversity support groups that you can join for networking, support and further training. These include groups for disabilities, those with families or care responsibilities, and those passionate about gender or racial equality.

We are encouraged to volunteer and we are given time to assist charities/volunteering. The firm regularly hosts charity/fundraising events which are fun to get involved in.

Why?
Overall the firm is positive and inspiring, I have always felt supported and that my best interests and career goals are taken on board and encouraged. I have never felt disadvantaged coming into the firm from a non-law background and still feel that I am given good quality work and the opportunity to thrive.
