Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Mace?
Enjoying my time at Mace in the energy and utilities sector. People are friendly and approachable. There are good opportunities for progression.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
Project Management is generally about tracking work packages and communicating effectively between different teams.
It's most rewarding building relationships and friendships with peers and clients. There is opportunity to work with different clients at Mace and this suits myself who enjoys variety.
I also get to continue learning about multiple engineering disciplines as I work with an electricity transmission client.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

The energy and utilities sector has great leadership and due to the structure of Mace I have developed good relationships with people all around the business.
The graduate scheme has put me in contact with other Mace employees around the world and has good opportunities for chartership and qualification progression.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

The role is fairly paid and the progression is good.
Manchester is starting to become quite expensive though and I'm not sure wages have adapted yet, unlike London.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?

Mace rewards curious and proactive behaviors. There is a good culture in the Manchester office and I have made many connections who are happy to help when I have a question.
Chartership and qualifications are paid for by company as a graduate.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
5/5
The project team I've worked with have been fundamental to my day to day development. Qualifications such as the PFQ are really useful for learning the fundamental aspects of project management that are consistent between clients.
Show curiosity and people will enjoy teaching you things and that may ultimately open up new opportunities.

My line manager has been very supportive. We have a good relationship where I can talk about my career but also any personal matters in confidence.
How is your work-life balance?

Mace are clear about wellbeing and value healthy workers. People generally finish on time and it can be flexible.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
5/5
I find Mace has a positive culture and focuses on wellbeing, particularly in my business unit. It can feel London centric at times but this is expected as they started there. The Manchester office feels like it has a good culture, most people work hybrid.
How would you rate Mace initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?

Mace have company wide communities that hold events.
There have also been office events that celebrate other peoples cultures.
How would you rate Mace CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?

We have a volunteer day every year. There is also more opportunity to give back to the community as there is a social value team who organize communal events.
There is a green car scheme and the company encourages the use of public transport as to reduce carbon emissions.

I found recruitment was positive and casual. Mace wanted to know who I was as a person and feel the best way to do so is with a normal conversation. It matches my experience at Mace that people are generally open minded.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Mace?
Apply early. Research the role and the Mace strategy.
Show curiosity, don't be afraid to ask someone a question.
Keep other people you work with in the assessment center involved. A leader champions other people and this is one of the Mace behaviors.
Nerves are natural, don't worry about it. Everyone is human.
