Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at S&W?
I have found my experience at S&W extremely positive and rewarding - The culture is genuinely supportive and inclusive. There’s a strong emphasis on collaboration, and people are always willing to help or share knowledge. As an associate, I’ve had the chance to work directly with Directors and Partners, which has accelerated my learning. There’s also a healthy respect for work-life balance, and the firm encourages flexibility and wellbeing.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
My role involves supporting valuation engagements across a range of sectors, working closely with clients to assess the value of businesses, shares, intangible assets, and more, followed by the delivery of well-reasoned valuation reports that support transactions, disputes and strategic decision-making. What I enjoy most is the variety, no two projects are the same, where one week you may be valuing a tech start-up, and the next, helping a client structure growth shares in a tax-efficient way.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
5/5
Being a smaller firm, you are given the opportunity to work on high-impact projects while being part of a close-knit team and working closely with colleagues at all levels which is very unique.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
4/5
You are provided with perks such as health insurance, discounted gym memberships and a good pension scheme
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
5/5
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
5/5
The firm places heavy emphasis on training, with weekly sessions in your first year as a graduate, and frequent training thereafter. From the get-go, you get exposure to working with senior professionals as well as interacting with clients, which in my opinion has been instrumental to accelerating my development.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
5/5
The firm has a buddy scheme which ensures you always have someone approachable to rely on for questions or support, particularly in your first few months. You also have frequent catch-ups with line managers where you can raise any concerns and to discuss progress.
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
5/5
I was drawn to S&W because of its reputation for combining technical excellence with a personable, down-to-earth culture. I'd say what stood out to me the most, was how approachable everyone was, and how close-knit the team was, with weekly drinks on a Thursday and frequent socials.

Would you recommend S&W to a friend?
Yes
Why?
S&W offers a great blend of professional challenge and personal support. The learning curve can at times be steep, but there's always someone to guide you. The firm invests in its people, whether through formal training, mentoring, or giving you exposure to interesting work early on. It’s also a place where your voice is heard, and you can make a real impact.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
5/5
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to S&W?
Be curious and proactive. Show a genuine interest in the business area you’re applying to, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Speaking from experience, no one expects you to be an expert during interviews, I'd just focus on demonstrating your analytical thinking and communication skills.
