Audit summer intern Review

I completed a six-week internship in the Audit Business Services team in London. Most of my work involved helping with day-to-day audit tasks, such as checking bank statements and receipts, preparing working papers, and using tools like Inflo and Excel to support the audit process. I also joined client visits quite regularly, which helped me understand how different businesses operate and how auditors communicate with finance teams. Throughout the internship, I worked closely with associates and seniors, asked questions when needed, and gradually became more confident working through audit procedures independently

Yes, I was given a good level of responsibility. I was trusted to review financial documents, request information from clients, and complete parts of the audit testing with guidance from the team. I often had to manage small tasks on my own and make sure my work was accurate and completed on time. Speaking directly with clients and working on-site also helped me build confidence and take ownership of my work.

During the internship, I definitely picked up new skills and strengthened a lot of existing ones. I learnt how to use audit software like Inflo and became much more confident using Excel in a practical audit setting. I also developed a better understanding of audit testing and how to review supporting documents like bank statements and receipts.
On top of the technical side, I improved my communication skills by interacting with clients regularly and asking the team questions when I was unsure. I also got better at managing my time and keeping track of tasks during busy periods, especially when working at client sites.

I received a really good level of support throughout my internship. Everyone in the team was friendly and always willing to help, and they took the time to answer my questions patiently. I felt comfortable asking for guidance whenever I needed it, and people were happy to explain things or walk me through tasks.
I also really enjoyed the department’s summer social — I had the chance to speak with a lot of colleagues and felt genuinely included. It helped me settle in quickly and feel like part of the team.

The culture was very welcoming and supportive. People were approachable and genuinely happy to help, which made it easy to settle in and ask questions. The atmosphere in the office was professional but relaxed — everyone worked hard, but there was a friendly tone and people were open to chatting and getting to know each other.
There were plenty of opportunities to connect with colleagues, including team socials, and I always felt included. Overall, it was a positive and collaborative environment where interns were treated as part of the team.

I really enjoyed my internship and had a great experience overall. The work was interesting and gave me a good insight into what audit is like in practice, and I liked being able to go on-site and see how different businesses operate. The team was supportive and friendly, which made a big difference, and I felt like I was able to settle in quickly and get involved.
The social side was also nice — I enjoyed getting to know people both in the office and at team events. Overall, it was a very positive experience and confirmed my interest in working in audit.
