Data Science Intern Review

As a Data Science Intern I am working on a Real World Data project. This involves exploring the data source used, running queries using SQL, sharing my findings on an internal knowledge hub, using Git/Bitbucket for collaborative work, and catching up with colleagues on my progress.

I was given the right amount of responsibility. I felt that managers trusted me to carry out work independently and help achieve deadlines together but I also knew that I could always reach out for help where needed.

I learnt new skills such as running queries in SQL, using Git, working with claims data, and learning about a new disease area. I also developed my existing skills including coding in R, producing baseline characteristics, summarising literature and communicating with my colleagues/managers.

I received a good amount of support from everyone on my team. I felt as if I could always reach out if I required further guidance.

The general atmosphere was positive and enthusiastic. Everyone I came across seems passionate about the work they do and how this contributes to wider goals of the company. I got the impression that if issues do arise they can be openly discussed with managers.

I really enjoyed my internship. The team I was placed in suited my past experiences and I got a good insight into the work of a pharmaceutical company. I developed industry specific skills that will strengthen future job applications. Overall, the internship provided the challenge and experience I was looking for.
