Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Maven?
I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Maven so far, I am always learning new skills with the ability to make an instant impact with my work. The people are also incredibly friendly, I have been afforded the opportunity to network with many people around the firm so I always have someone to contact if I need help.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
The graduate role consisted of a 10 week period and 2 14 week rotations in different tech teams. Although I have just started my rotation, I am thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to work on systems that the business uses to generate revenue.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
5/5
I have been assigned tasks to complete as part of my rotation. These are tasks that otherwise would've been completed by members of my team, so I am given the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and reduce the workload for my colleagues.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
5/5
I believe I am very fairly compensated, the benefits are also very useful, including the yearly learning budget and free breakfast/lunch/snacks at the office.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
5/5
The role is preparing me very well for my future career by giving me training sessions to hone my skills as well as the opportunity to work on existing codebases, these will prove very useful for my career as I will be much more well rounded.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
5/5
Since I did not come from a computer science background, coming into this software engineering role at Maven, I have been learning something new on a daily basis.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
5/5
The support I receive is very good, I have 1 to 1 meetings with my manager and the tech emerging talent specialist. It is always helpful to meet with them and get frequent feedback.
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
The work life balance is quite good, I arrive for 9am and leave at 5pm which gives me enough time to do the things I enjoy outside of work.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
4/5
The culture is a very positive culture with people being very friendly but also very high achieving. Maven still has work to do when it comes to representation of women in tech and employees from minority backgrounds but there are initiatives to improve the representation.
How would you rate Maven initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
5/5
Maven has many initiatives related to DEI, namely the DEI fund which allocates profits from a profitable trading strategy to DEI related causes, in addition there are many employee resource groups to allow employees who are from underrepresented backgrounds to have a sense of community within the office.
How would you rate Maven CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
5/5
There is a big drive within Maven for CSR initiatives, namely the introduction of a volunteering day which is a paid day where employees can take leave to volunteer for causes they care about.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Maven to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The people are very nice but also very intelligent, you will learn a lot from their expertise, the firm also cares about their people by affording them nice benefits as well as trying to make the workplace as diverse as possible.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
5/5
The role matched exactly what I thought it would be this is because I had the opportunity to shadow devs at Maven and hear about their experiences.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Maven?
Make sure that you have good professional skills as technical skills are not the only thing that Maven look for.
