Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
On the Spring Week programme, you would typically shadow a fresh grad for part of the day, participate in ‘trading games’ with the other interns and attend Q&A sessions with different members of the firm. Other less regular activities included group presentations, testing process and a hands-on problem solving project.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
No. This was a learning-focussed week. You were responsible only for your own process and also slightly for your group project.

You learn skills to do with financial markets, mental arithmetic, group work and also a less-explicable sense of a ‘trading’ mentality through the games.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
Support throughout the programme was good. If you had an issue it was clear who to bring it up with and although I didn’t see it in action I have decent faith that it would’ve been addressed professionally. The team was good with taking you through step-by-step and offering guidance when needed.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Company culture was intense but not hostile. Seemed actually quite quiet in the office compared to what you might expect.

I enjoyed it very much. It was less bureaucratic and more involved than I had foreseen and the training was solid.

What advice would you give to others applying to Maven
Try and set yourself apart in any way you can. As good a candidate as you might be, chances are someone out there is better than you at being boring so go and do something that someone else can’t/is unlikely to.
