Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at JLR?
Overall positive, especially for a Grad scheme. JLR heavily invests into Early Careers both in terms of development and opportunities. The culture is really good with a balance of corporate, relaxed office work in Gaydon and hands-on time on the shop floor. There are so many roles available at the company, and the benefit of doing a grad scheme here is that you can rotate throughout the business with voluntary placements in a different team so you can try them out and gain experience. This can be relevant to your normal role or completely different such as sustainability, events, finance, marketing etc. The grad scheme also offers a training programme in Y1 which focusses mainly on soft and business skills, which could be more advanced but at least brings everyone up to the same level especially if you've not worked in a corporate job before. Y2 offers a Graduate Innovation Challenge which is kind of like a final year group project, but completely relevant to real challenges within the business and a great chance for exposure. As well as this, Six Sigma Yellow belt training, Scrum master training, and innovation workshops are just some of the things most graduates do in their two years. Almost all of the time the grad scheme culminates in a full C grade job offer.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
Programme Management graduate scheme is a great chance to dive into the world of more business and planning related impacts of manufacturing mostly new model programmes. The work is interesting and follows the product lifecycle from strategy into launch so you get experience in all parts of development. The build phases are challenging and exciting, seeing new cars go from CAD to trial and full scale production, and this requires full support of Programme Management. I think it's a really good grad scheme if you want to be more aligned with the strategy, impacts and broader picture, rather than just being a part or component manufacturing engineer. During this grad scheme, you could become a Scrum Master of certain launch squads or be responsible for necessary launch activities like organising build plans, vehicle tests, and quality audits. You have direct interaction with a great number of cross functional teams across the business and it's a great introduction into such a large company.
