Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at JLR?
Excellent! From the moment we joined the company, I have felt fully immersed with everything manufacturing. I originally started in a research position, looking at innovative solutions to current problems. I have since moved on a placement to a team installing the latest production line. These are 2 complete extremes of manufacturing, but my manager and the early careers team have been really supportive throughout to ensure I am enjoying my experience while also developing in all areas!
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
During my time in Research, I spent a lot of time in CAD software, designing new fixtures and gauges to be used in trials. I have also been in charge of some minor project finances and creating review decks to share with senior management. While in the process launch team, I have been liaising with contractors to ensure the project remains on time and within cost. I have also been conducting capability analysis and trial runs to ensure products are built to the highest quality.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
5/5
Even though I am a graduate, I feel like I am a full engineer, with responsibility and say in some decisions. I am encouraged to be heard and feel very connected to my team.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
5/5
The pay is excellent, especially considering we are on a graduate scheme. I also take advantage of our Ford Privilege scheme, which allows me to have a brand new car for quite an affordable price. I also make use of our "smart spending" app on regular occasions, saving on everyday purchases and gifts.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
5/5
Very much so! My manager is supporting me to develop, and ensure I have all the skills to transfer onto later projects and installations.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
5/5
From speaking to colleagues and learning of them, to more formal courses away from the office (Such as the JLR Core Skills Program and Yellow Belt Training), I am learning a lot. I am also developing massively as a person and am a lot more confident than when I started.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
4/5
I receive a lot of support, especially from my manager and placement manager, who encourages me to take every opportunity that is given. I do, however, have very little contact with my buddy, even after multiple attempts to contact.
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
With this job role, considering I am in the office a lot of the time, I find it very easy to walk out of the plant, and keep work at work. If times get tough during work hours, the culture within JLR allows you to take 5, have a wellbeing walk, or check in with colleagues. You are truly supported as a person from day one.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
4/5
The overall culture is built around our creator's code, and that really can be seen at all times. Everyone is ensuring that only the best products gets to the hands of the customer, acting with integrity and professionalism in everything we do.
How would you rate JLR initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
4/5
How would you rate JLR CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
3/5
Overall, I am aware that we are given 2 days to conduct CSR activities, however, these oppourtunities are not very well advertised, and not commonly found.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
Yes
Why?
JLR is a great place to work. Everyone is supportive of one another, and there is a true culture of "one team". We all want to deliver the best vehicles to the market, and work incredibly hard to ensure the company succeeds.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
4/5
Although I initially didn't think it was what working in manufacturing would be like (Hand's on, actually building, installing), I have thoroughly enjoyed the role that I have been given, and it is still very similar to what I expected.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to JLR?
Do your research! JLR isn't just about cars, it is on a mission to create a culture of modern luxury. You need to have passion for innovation, and motivation to ensure that we deliver only the best vehicles.
