Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at JLR?
The JLR graduate scheme is an amazing place to learn and grow. The opportunities to go around the company and do placements within different teams is a big benefit to this scheme.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
Working on the HV Battery team I coordinated Software and Hardware fixes with various teams around the company this included verifying fixes and testing software on the batteries and vehicles. In a placement in the ADAS team I created and ran test cases for sensors used and provided Rig support.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
5/5
Right from the beginning we were fully immersed in the role and contributed directly to the team. While still being supported, we were able to grow and learn while actually being able to contribute.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
4/5
I believe we are paid quite well and there are a few benefits offered by JLR including a scheme where the company gives you some money to invest in yourself. However not all bonus and benefits are applicable to graduates.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
5/5
The role perfectly prepared me for my future career as I have been able to learn industry standard tools and work in different teams across the company
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
5/5
As a graduate on the scheme we are all formally trained in management, business and soft skills which is really helpful. We are then trained on more technical skills within our teams so the training is more specific to the role. Depending on the team, most of the technical skills are learnt while on the job.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
5/5
The support is quite good and comes from a variety of places. The main support comes from Line managers and one to one meetings with them. There is also the buddy scheme where you are paired up with someone at least 1 year ahead of you. More support also comes from the Young professional Network and other networks(societies) within the company.
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
Good as I work from home Mondays and Fridays as I do not live in the area.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
5/5
JLR puts a lot of focus into the company values and culture which are Customer Love, Unity, Integrity, Growth and Impact. The general atmosphere in the company stems from these values and is quite positive. Work from home policies are fairly varied between teams from being in the office once a fortnight to 5 days a week.
How would you rate JLR initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
5/5
As with the companies values, JLR has a strong DE&I initiative to make sure everyone at the company has access to the same opportunities. A stand out event at JLR is the Global DE&I Summit awards to celebrate DE&I at JLR.
How would you rate JLR CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
4/5
JLR has a variety of CSR initiatives including giving everyone paid leave to volunteer with not-for-profit organisations of their choice each calendar year. These initiatives could be better advertised but they are certainly available.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
Yes
Why?
JLR is a great place to learn and grow. The placements give you the opportunity to work in different departments of choice and gain a better understanding of each of them. There is also a lot of potential for growth and movement within the company and the values of the company provide a great atmosphere to work in.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
5/5
During the recruitment phase the company values were presented, this set the tone from the beginning. We were then invited to meet current graduates on the scheme, this further helped us with expectations for the role so that by the time we joined it matched up with our expectations.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to JLR?
During the application and interview phases try to convey your passion for the role or industry sector. Many people apply with good grades however demonstrating a real passion for what you do/the role you want to by showing projects done outside of university as well as hobbies will help you stand out and show that you care about the role more than a surface level job.
