Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As an Apprentice Surveyor, I play an active role in supporting different teams across a variety of sectors. My day-to-day responsibilities include assisting with site inspections, gathering and analysing data, preparing reports, and contributing to project planning and execution. I work closely with experienced surveyors which has given me valuable exposure to both technical surveying practices and client-facing work.
Through this hands-on experience, I’m building a strong foundation in core surveying principles while developing key skills in communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement. I’m also working toward professional accreditation, with a clear focus on continuous learning and contributing meaningfully to the built environment.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I genuinely enjoy my apprenticeship programme. It offers the perfect balance of structured learning and real-world experience, allowing me to grow both professionally and personally. The support from my team and mentors has been fantastic, and I feel motivated by the opportunities to contribute meaningfully while continuing to learn. Every day brings something new, and I’m excited about the journey ahead in the surveying profession.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Throughout my apprenticeship, I’ve made meaningful progress in developing both technical and interpersonal skills. I’ve built confidence in conducting site visits, interpreting building plans, and producing accurate reports. My understanding of surveying principles has deepened through practical experience and ongoing learning.
I’ve also grown professionally—enhancing my communication, time management, and teamwork skills by working alongside experienced surveyors and engaging with clients. These experiences have helped me become more proactive, detail-oriented, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment. I’m proud of the progress I’ve made and committed to continuing my development as I work towards my APC.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is very well structured, thanks in large part to the University College of the Built Environment (UBE). Their curriculum is clearly aligned with industry standards and supports my development in a logical, progressive way. The blend of academic learning and practical experience is seamless, and regular reviews help me stay on track with both my studies and workplace responsibilities. CBRE's programme is well structured also thanks to the inhouse Next Gen team who are always organising training and development events which are designed to help our progress within the programme.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive excellent support from my employer. My team is approachable and always willing to share their expertise. I’ve had consistent guidance from my manager and colleagues, and there’s a strong culture of mentoring and collaboration that makes me feel valued and supported. We are supported internally through the Next Gen programme and being allocated supervisors/buddies in our offices, whom are there to support you throughout the programme.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
UBE has been incredibly supportive throughout my qualification journey. Tutors are knowledgeable and the learning materials are practical and relevant to my role. Regular check-ins and feedback sessions help me stay focused and confident in my progress with my apprenticeship outcomes officer.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The qualification through UBE directly enhances my performance at work. The academic content gives me a deeper understanding of surveying principles, which I can apply immediately in real-world scenarios. It’s helped me become more analytical, efficient, and confident in my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved beyond my core responsibilities. I’ve participated in social events, networking sessions, and internal initiatives like Pathways to Property which was an event designed to boost client connectivity and develop skills in communication which I helped lead. These activities have helped me build relationships, develop soft skills, and feel more connected to the wider team.
