Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am currently completing my first year at CBRE as an Apprentice Surveyor and I have been placed in the Business Rates Team for my first rotation. Day to day I work with computer systems such as Excel to create spreadsheets, I perform inspections on properties, shadow my managers whilst they liaise with clients and take part in meetings and calls that relate to Ratings and Next generation. I thoroughly enjoy coming into the office every morning, with no day quite the same. Its great to always have something interesting to learn or take part in.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I extremely enjoy this programme as it is unlike many others due to it offering me whats known as 'rotations', this means that each year I switch teams and the department that I am working in. This is great as it will allow me to develop a more well-rounded understanding of Real estate and the built environment which will ultimately better prepare me for my future career. I also enjoy my programme as everyone in the office is welcoming, friendly and eager to help you. This makes my day to day life a lot easier as I feel comfortable to ask questions without feeling embarrassed to do so, this meaning I actually learn on the job rather than struggling in silence. Having such great coworkers also helps to develop a sense of community which I feel apart of making it easier to enjoy the programme as I feel supported. Lastly, this programme is so well organised it means that it is easy to stay on top or work whilst juggling university and other aspects of life. There is always appropriate support offered if I feel as though I am struggling. This reduces my stress levels and allows me to actually enjoy my programme more as I feel well organised and on top of my work and ultimately I know where to turn if I am concerned.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed a number of skills during my Apprenticeship so far, most including communication, team-working and people skills. The property industry is extremely social and networking is a key part in succeeding within the career, due to this i have built my confidence in speaking to people and learnt how to effectively communicate with others, whether these be coworkers or clients. I have also developed my computer skills, learning new software's and applying my previous knowledge of for example Excel to the work I am learning and completing.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
This programme is extremely well organised. Whether it be with my university work, my day to day job or my Next Generation Team commitments I will always have systems put in place so that I feel prepared when starting, supported during, and know where to look after if struggling. The Teams and individuals who run the Next Generation Team in particular are superb! They are so approachable and friendly and offer all kinds of support whenever you need it. We are always in the know of what is expected of us due to the programme being so well organised, we know the layout of what these next 4-5 years will look like and exactly how we will be supported through this.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a great deal of support from my employer. Everyone within the office is so approachable and eager to answer any questions I may have. From my Line Manager to my University Manager it is so easy to talk to them and i feel comfortable to speak to them if i ever have any issues or concerns. Within my day-to-day i always have structure, with tasks being set to me by a number of my co-workers who always fully explain what I am supposed to be doing and how to do it. They are extremely understanding if i struggle and are happy to go through things again and help me understand. Therefore I feel very supported by everyone at CBRE.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
As i am currently a new starter within the company I haven't had many issues or opportunities to receive support from my training provider. However, I am constantly reminded of the support systems that are in place for me and given advice on how to organise my week so that i can effectively balance work and university. There is a number of individuals that would be happy to help me if i ever felt overwhelmed or was struggling with anything, and this support system makes me feel more at ease knowing that there is always someone there to help me.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My Qualification is helpful as it heavily relates to the work i am doing and will be doing day-to-day in my career. It highlights legislation's, important topics and information that I can take with me into work and use to ensure the work I am completing is up to standards and regulations. By being taught about real estate as a whole I have a broader understanding of the Built Environment which means when I am rotated into different teams I will have more of a basis of knowledge to work of. This general understanding can then be channelled into more focused understanding that relates to the specific team that I am working within.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
CBRE is great for offering activities to get involved with, whether this be within the office or outside of the office with coworkers or with clients, there is always something to keep you busy if you want to get stuck in. Social activities include Next Generation specific activities such as lunches, events or even our week long induction where we take part in pub quizzes, silent disco's and rounders! There is also networking outside of the Next Gen with coffee roulette's, lunch and learns as well as actual events. Networking events can also include other companies or clients where fun evenings are organised to build relationships. Networks are also a big part of CBRE, these being groups that you can join to be apart of a specific community for example there is the Women's Network or the Pride Network. These are great ways to meet like minded individuals and take part in activities such as fun charity events. Lastly, there are a number of sports you can get involved with such as running, netball and rugby.
