Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
My day to day role evolved as I went through the internship. The first week or so was mainly training with general, training for consultants and compliance courses. Once finished with that I worked with a strategy doing research and helping to put information into a slide deck. We would have meeting regularly but not on a daily basis. I was mainly responsible for one section of research but this grew as time went on.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given a level of autonomy in the work I did. However a lot of the work that was done was from my managers guidance with some room for my own creativity. I would say overall that I was given a decent level of responsibility, but there was scope for me to have been given a lot more.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
In terms of any new skills gained, I would have to say that corporated presentation skills are very different from university. I have learnt how to get the key messages from a piece of work.Through training I have learnt more about ethics of business practice. I have also been given an initial toolkit on what a consultant is and some of the daily tasks that one undertakes

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
PwC did have a buddy system with an associate just to ask basic questions around the software and how the business ran. You also had a career coach a more senior member of staff, whose job was to help with your personal development. Finally you had you project manager who was more of a traditional boss giving instruction on the project. So there were many level of support at PwC

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
PwC are more casual and layback than most corporate companies. They are extremely flexible in terms of work time and try to work around you. They are also really casual in terms of work dress, allowing you to dress for your day. This casual culture and approach really does allow you to be comfortable. They also provide coffee and encourage you to meet new people which is very good for the human aspect of things.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
It was enjoyable in a lot of parts, though it did become iterative at some points that did takeaway from that. I did only really get a taste of one project through m,y time and I do wish that I had gotten exposure to other areas of the business or gotten a little more insight from leadership and the decisions they were making at a higher level. Otherwise I did like my time.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to PwC
Take initiative while at PwC, it is such a big company with so many people2, so if you do not make an effort you can get a bit lost in it all. Network and find areas of the business that really do interest you and try to engage with your manager as much as you can. Get stuck in and involved in as much as you can without running the quality of your work
