Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at JLR?
Having now finished the graduate scheme I thought it was very good. The amazing thing about JLR is how many people care about young people climbing the corporate ladder and trying to make something of themselves.
The scheme had compulsory items which you were required to do which were based on improving your soft skills and how you work as a team, as well as how you would be in a leadership position, through the Ashorne Hill Core Skills programs and the GIC.
I did have some issues with some of the content at the time but the brilliant thing is that the Early Careers team are constantly seeking feedback and ways to improve the program so every graduate gets the most out of it, and it's not a one shoe fits all situation.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
I got lucky going into the department I did as I got given plenty of responsibilities within my role which helped me learn a lot quicker and become more confident in my engineering skills. The responsibilities vary within role to role depending on what you do in your different placements/role rotation. However, I have never felt I was just a graduate and have always been looked at someone who can contribute to the end goal.
The aspect I enjoyed the most was the responsibilities given as it meant I could get stuck into any task.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
4/5
The roles I always had made me feel I was always contributing to something. However at times like any role it can be slow where you don't feel you are contributing much so that is why I haven't given it a 5.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
4/5
I think the salary for the JLR graduate scheme is exceptional, specially coming out of university so no complaints in that regard. However, you are not eligible for the global bonus every year which does seem like a kick in the teeth. I believe this is probably due to change in the future.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
4/5
Plenty of opportunities in JLR to explore what you like based on placements, see what areas of the business you are most interested with (within the structure you apply to so manufacturing, finance etc.) Then the role and what you make of that role will be shaping you for the future.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
5/5
As I mentioned the graduate scheme provides plenty of training within the scheme for you to develop the more softer skills. I was also lucky that in my department they are very interested in training and developing people so they do put in place the more technical training for you to benefit from.

Experience & Company Culture

How is your work-life balance?
5/5
The hours I worked at JLR were excellent - 7am-3:30pm.
JLR is very flexible with hours and great company.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
5/5
JLR has had a massive change in its culture since I was an undergraduate back in 2021. They have a massive focus on people which you see on a daily basis.
How would you rate JLR initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
5/5
Like a say massive focus on people, and massive focus on making sure every person is included and no one is left behind.
How would you rate JLR CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
4/5
I am aligned with all the JLR values and the work they are doing to become Net Zero. It is something it is embedded into the company and you can clearly see it.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I've enjoyed my time at JLR, I think its a great company to work in and I would very much recommend it to anyone.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
3/5
Having done an undergraduate I said I wanted to stick to manufacturing but during the onboarding process there is nothing to tell me what the department/role I was going to be in.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to JLR?
Not really, just make sure you get all your information sent across as soon as possible to make your life easier.
