Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Day to day running of the Public Engagement programming at Kensington Palace including school and community groups, and support on large-scale events across HRP sites at Tower of London and Hampton Court Palace. Working with internal and external stakeholders, communicating, and collaborating, to deliver strategic aims through events.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy the variety and combination of my Events Assistant training course and work role at HRP. Every day is different and I am well supported by a friendly team and welcoming apprentice cohort enabling me to build relationships across the organisation and sector.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt lots of practical skills such as supporting events and running school visits, as well as professional skills like communication, teamwork, and time management. I've also worked on my software skills, and have learnt how to use software packages in new ways and experience bespoke software.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My training provider (the JGA group) and employer communicate well to ensure the programme is well structured and organised. I have four work days in the office and one study day at home each week, and frequently go through upcoming dates with my line manager to prepare for busy periods. My training course was clearly set out with dates shared well in advance and clear deadlines.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My employer have made helpful adaptations to my role in order to best support me and my additional learning needs. They have created personalised wellbeing plans, communicated openly, and liaised with my training provider.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My training provider have always made clear who to contact if I need support of any kind and are very supportive when working towards my qualifications. I meet frequently with them and my employer to ensure everyone is on the same page and that I am receiving appropriate support.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I have been able to apply learning from my qualification to workplace experience, which aligns with my active learning style and encourages me to try new things with confidence. Seeing how my learning relates to real life events helps me consolidate my learning and take it into my job role, improving my performance.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are relatively frequent social events including xmas and summer parties, staff forum events allowing staff to meet the executive team and receive updates, and some other activities too. Events are also organised specifically for the apprentice cohort, allowing us to build relationships with other young people gaining experience in professional roles.

Why?
HRP is a lovely place to work, not just because of the gorgeous historical environment but also the welcoming culture and friendly staff. I am constantly given opportunities to learn and develop, whether attending training webinars relevant to the sector or taking responsibility for parts of events. Having a cohort of apprentices to work with really makes the experience, as we are able to relate to each other and spend time together.
