Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
The core placement is in the New Ways to Pay team and this involves research (competitor analysis) and attendance/contribution to regular team meetings, as well as assisting the team with testing an updated version of the banking app. Group work involves both project management for a fundraising task and, separately, coordinating a group presentation on ideas for how the bank can reduce its carbon footprint.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
An appropriate amount of responsibility - involving agency in relation to the tasks set, but without being overloaded with work that might be consequential if mistakes are made.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Certainly soft skills like teamwork, communication and time-management. Use of IT systems such as Microsoft Teams, Leankit, Skype, Zoom. Learning frameworks/methods for project management related to the 'Agile' approach, eg scrums, swarming, backlog.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
Lots of support. My direct manager would check-in frequently and was approachable. Other team members also assisted in my development. A mentor in the group project was useful. A general 'grad' buddy was on hand as well.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Culture is very supportive, friendly and relaxed. Work-life balance is valued. Naive questions are treated with respect. Input is encouraged in spite of limited knowledge and experience.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
Thoroughly enjoyed it. The work side was very educational - lots of learning. Socially there were plenty of opportunities to spend time with other interns and sometimes non-intern colleagues.
